Sunday 17th March 2024, and once again we were back at the Drayton Court Hotel in Ealing to celebrate the Carry On films Following the usual quiz, this time with a little extra music-bingo round, we were joined by eight wonderful stars from the Carry On films. Film historian and author Morris Bright MBE was also on hand, as was artist Charles Waples. |
Larry Dann has actually appeared more times at Whippit Inn events than he has in Carry On films. He made four films, and today was his fifth visit to the Inn. Larry was a guest at our very first event, in an upstairs function room at the very same hotel, a mere 18 years ago.
Larry's Carry On roles covered almost twenty years, with his first being Teacher in 1959 and his last being Emmannuelle in 1978. Behind and England being the other two.
He has recently been very busy promoting his new book, "Oh, What a Lovely Memoir", and he happily brought a few copies with him for fans to get hold of.

No less than three actors joined us for their Carry On event debuts. Peter Jesson, Dominique Don and Jenny Cox.
It was a joy to welcome them all and hear their recollections, none of which we had heard before.
Peter Jesson appeared in two Carry On films, but actually filmed parts for three of them. He played the shocked car salesman in Carry On Cabby, who had a rather good day when Peggy Hawkins bought 15 of his cars for her Glamcab business, and he was Horsa's friend Seth, in Carry On Cleo. As well as these two films, he also played T.E. Lawrence (of Arabia) in a cut scene for Follow that Camel. Sadly the footage doesn't exist, but there is a splendid still photograph of Peter from the location at Camber Sands, with Kenneth Williams as Commandant Burger.
Peter also appeared in four other comedies for Peter Rogers and Gerald Thomas. They were Twice Round the Daffodils, The Iron Maiden, Nurse on Wheels and The Big Job.

Dominique Don appeared in four Carry On films. She played Glamcab driver Mitzi in "Cabby", a girl at Dirty Dicks in "Jack", a Harem girl in "Follow that Camel" and the girl sent by Sgt. Major Macnutt to seduce Brother Belcher in "Up the Khyber". Dominique is also a Bond Girl, appearing in Goldfinger, with Sean Connery. Up the Khyber, with Peter Butterworth

Our third event debutante appeared in two scenes at either end of Carry On Behind. Jenny Cox played the stripper Veronica in both Professor Crump's college lecture and at the Riverside Caravan Park. There was a scene after the second striptease, featuring Veronica and Major Leep, but this was cut from the final edit. |

Sally Geeson had starring roles in two Carry On films, but appeared in three. The first one being as a child actor in Carry On Regardless in 1961. Eleven years later she returned for Abroad and Girls.
Sally's sister Judy was also part of the Carry On family, taking a leading role in Carry On England. This is Sally's third visit to the Whippit Inn, and she is more than welcome to come back time and time again. |

Making their first visit to a Whippit Inn event, were three lovely ladies of the Carry On films. Vivienne Johnson, Amanda Barrie and Su Douglas.
Vivienne Johnson only appeared in one Carry On film, but she did make three of the TV sitcom episodes, Carry On Laughing. Carry On England was released in 1976, and sadly most of Vivienne's part was cut from the final edit. One year after that "And in My Lady's Chamber", "The Case of the Coughing Parrot" and "Who Needs Kitchener?" were shown on ITV. |

Amanda Barrie had two title roles in the series, appearing in Cabby and Cleo. Well known for her long stint in Coronation Street, Amanda is still making TV, having made her forth appearance as Elsie Clegg in "Casualty" just last year, as well as episodes of Benidorm a few years earlier.
Su Douglas played Countess Joanna in Carry On Columbus. She was also married to Carry On regular Jack Douglas, from 1965 to 1990, appearing with him in the Cannon and Ball comedy film, "The Boys in Blue". Younger viewers may recognise her voice as that of Dilys Price, Lily Chen and Mandy Flood in "Fireman Sam". Three roles, amongst several others, that she has played for over 20 years. Recently Su, a prolific stage actress, has performed a one-woman show, talking about her wonderful career. Hopefully, she will Carry On doing these shows in the future, as she has so many wonderful memories of her life on stage and screen. |
